James H. Cagle 1921 ~ 2008 RIVERDALE- James H. Cagle, 87, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2008 at McKay Dee Hospital of a heart condition. He was born February 24, 1921 in Dennison, Texas, a son of James William and Bessie Alma Burke Cagle. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim served his country in World War II as a photographer, Navy 1st class. He photographed famous people including then Secretary of War, Harry Truman. While stationed at Clearfield Naval Supply Depot one of his assignments was the creation of a GI 'pinup' calendar. He fell in love with Helen Matilda Roper (Miss December 1945) and married her on June 28, 1946. She has been his 'pinup' ever since. They were later sealed in the Ogden temple. They spent several summers in southern Utah on the Indian reservation photographing the people and country that they loved. One of his proud accomplishments was a rare photograph of Chief Gray Mountain. He was a salesman for Sun Photo and operated his own professional photography business with his lovely wife. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. He didn't die wealthy but considered his family to be his great wealth. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Helen of Riverdale; four daughters, Audree Anderson (Don), Chino, CA; Jill Cagle Kelly, Las Vegas, NV; Julie Coleman (Dal), Layton; Jennifer Price (Keith), Kaysville; two sons, James Robert Cagle (Sherry), West Point; Jeffrey Brent Cagle (DeAnn), Plain City; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children. Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Amy McKay, two brothers, John Cagle and Jack Cagle, and two grandchildren, Chris Cagle Brown and Shawn Cook Coleman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT. Family and friends may call Wed., August 27, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the mortuary.
I thought I would share my favorite memory of my grandpa, when I was little my grandpa would tell me to eat the crusts off my bread and I would grow long blond curly hair. Well that stuck with me and when I was in kindergarten I had to draw a self portrait, which I drew myself having long blond curly hair! I also remember Colby and I having a long conversation with him one evening about his life and his love of golf. I am so thankful that I had the talk with him because I learned so much about him and what an amazing life he had. Later on Colby told me, "your grandpa has played on all the courses that I want to play on. He had the life." I love you grandpa and will miss you lots!
