This post is dedicated to my pharmacy buddies. I first have to say that I really do love my job. I only work like 4 days a month so I don't have much to complain about, but there are always those little irritating things that happen on the job. Pharmacists and Techs will understand these pointers and laugh, but others might get offended if they have ever committed these blunders at their pharmacy.
Pharmacy Pointers
1. Staring and glaring at me behind the counter will not make me work faster and get your RX out sooner.
2. When calling in a refill I don't need you to tell me what the drug is for, the full name, and what it looks like, the RX number is sufficient, in fact we have an automation line that you can call instead.
3. Also, really you don't know what medication you are taking? That's something you should know and not refer to your meds as "it's the little white pill."
4. I do not control you insurance. When we process a RX through your insurance and it comes to whatever price, that's the price and I can't change it. Take it up with you insurance if you have a problem. I'm not going to reprocess it and see if the price will change.
5. Remember we are a pharmacy and not a doctor's office.
6. Calling 5 times in an hour to see if your RX has been filled yet is a little excessive. If you tell us to call you when it's done, we will call you back, there is no need for excessive phone calls.
7. The IN window is where you drop off your RX the OUT window is where you pick up your meds. I'm not so sure what's so difficult about that, maybe people just don't take the time to read the signs. Who knows?
Well I hope you had a good laugh and feel free to add to the pointers in the comments. I just picked the ones the irritate me the most. I didn't even get to talk about hospital pharmacy and we all know that that list is long. : )

I am totally laughing! AMEN sister!
Oh my gosh! I am such an idiot, I went to the pharmacy the other day to get my birth control refilled, and the lady couldn't find my perscription. I keep telling her I know I got it there last time...look again...blah blah blah blah... then I realize I'M AT THE WRONG PHARMACY!!! I felt like such an idiot. Then I'm all flustered and embarassed, so I go to drive away, and forgot about the big huge cement median thing...totally drove up on it. She probably thought I was drunk or something. Woops!
Oh my goodness...reading this brings back such 'good' memories and experiences from when I was doing my internship at the McKay Dee Hospital pharmacy! I can totally relate with you! Ha Ha... On the other perspective - sometimes I really wonder how some technicians pass the tests. The other day I was sent home with the wrong Rx and when I went back they questioned me...go figure.
Stay positive!
Nisa- I can't believe you don't know what drug someone is refering to when they say the little white pill. I learned long ago that people expect me to be a mind reader. Unfortunately that hasn't worked out so well for me yet. Don't even get me started. I love your list. It is so true. I'm embarassed to admit that sometimes when I go to pick up a script I find myself getting impatient when it's not done quickly. So I guess I can turn into one of those annoying customers when I'm not at work. Oh the joys of pharmacy.
I got a laugh out of this mainly because I can picture the irritated look on your face when any of these things happen to you. I would LOVE to see how you handle it. By the way, my sciatic nerve has been acting up. What can I take for it?! HAHAHAHA!!!!
