Spa Day

On Friday Colby and I decided we needed to go do something fun and relaxing, so we decided, well I decided we should go get a couple's massage at the Sanctuary Day Spa. Colby has been so busy with school and work so I feel like I never see him and plus he has been really stressed out. (This semester is one of the hardest in pharmacy school.) Anyway I thought a massage was just what we needed. Of course it wasn't easy getting I-15 was a mess due to a gravel spill and there were accidents all over the place. Well this caused us to be late so we had to reschedule, but lucky the spa had a later time. Finally, we dropped Corbin off at Grandma Sherry's and went to lunch and then headed to the spa. The massages were great! It was so relaxing. I love the calm music they played and the room had this starlight ceiling which was really cool. At the end they gave us cheesecake that was so delicious! It was an awesome day at the spa. However the day ended with Corbin pooping in the tub, which was a rude awakening that our day of fun and relaxation was over! Colby was awesome and cleaned up the mess! He is such a great Husband and Dad! Thanks for all you do!

State Fair

Today we went to the state fair and Corbin wasn't too sure about the goats. They seemed to love him though. One of them stuck out his head to get know Corbin better and Corbin stuck out his hand and the goat licked him. He did not like this, he jumped and looked up at me like "how dare he do that!"

(I didn't realize that goats had such long necks.) To make up for it my Grandma gave him some of her funnel cake and he couldn't get enough of the powdered sugar. He loved it! Corbin seemed to like the other animals, but I couldn't handle the smells and started gagging, so my Mom had to finish taking him around. Who knew sheep stunk so bad? Overall it was a nice day at the state fair. Our camera is still broken so I had to make do with my cell phone. So sorry if the pics are fuzzy.

Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS)

My friend, Melissa, has children that have this scary condition and she has requested that I post this on my blog to get the word out...

September is Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS) Awareness month. This is a very common undiagnosed syndrome that is also known as "The Silent Killer". So here it is! This is something near and dear to my heart and I would love to get the word out to as many people as I can! So if you love me you will copy this post and re-post on your blog with your own little ditty and ask all your friends to do the same thing! I know it sounds silly and lame but we do this with chain crap all the time, but this time it could save someones life!

So please help me for my cause! Thank you and I love you!

Here are some eye grabbing facts to help you along...

• Each year in the United States, 400,000 Americans die suddenly and
unexpectedly due to cardiac arrhythmia's. 3,976 of them are young
people under age 35

• Long QT Syndrome (LQTS) is 3 times more common than childhood
leukemia (ALL) in the US and occurs 1/3 as often as cystic fibrosis and
twice as often as PKU (an infant protein deficiency which causes
mental retardation)

• SADS occur in about 240 people per 100,000, with 20 having LQTS,
20 having ARVD and 200 with HCM

• 1 in 200,000 high school athletes in the US will die suddenly, most
without any prior symptoms

Hundreds of children and young adults die each year in the United States due to Long QT Syndrome.
Any young person who has experienced unexplained fainting should be tested.
It is extremely important that all family members be tested for these conditions once one family member is identified as having the condition.
SADS’ Mission: To save the lives and support the families of children & young adults who are genetically predisposed to sudden death due to heart rhythm abnormalities.
Long QT Syndrome
(LQTS)
What is Long QT Syndrome (LQTS)?
1. LQTS is a disturbance of the heart's electrical system, causing an abnormality of the heartbeat, or rhythm of the heart.
2. Because of this abnormality, affected people are vulnerable to sudden fainting (syncope) and even death.
3. Unfortunately, many times the cause of the syncope is overlooked and the events are called simple fainting spells or seizures.
4. Most often, these events occur during physical exertion or emotional stress. In some they occur during sleep.
5. Fortunately, most of these deaths are preventable if the condition is recognized and treated.
What are the Symptoms?
♥ Fainting episodes (syncope) during or immediately after physical activity
♥ Fainting as a result of emotional excitement/distress/startle
♥ Family history of unexplained death below age 40
How is it Diagnosed?
The diagnosis is made from an ECG that has been read by a cardiologist, not a computer. Usually a series of ECGs will enable your doctor to diagnose LQTS. In some cases, an exercise ECG or event monitor will clarify the diagnosis. Finally,a diagnostic genetic test is now available and is extremely useful for diagnosis and treatment.
How Is It Treated?
Treatment is very effective in the vast majority of patients. Medications called beta-blockers are effective in about 90% of patients. In the remaining cases, a pacemaker or automatic defibrillator is used.
A child should be seen by a doctor if she/he has:
• Family history of unexpected, unexplained sudden death in a young person
• Fainting (syncope) or seizure during exercise, excitement or startle
• Consistent or unusual chest pain and/or shortness of breath during exercise

Our Little Guy

Corbin had his 9 month check-up today, and suprise suprise he is small. He weighed in at 17 lbs 5 ozs and 26 1/2 in tall, which is the 4% and 2% range. On the up side his head measured in the 57% range. Translation... he has his dad's big head and his mom's little body, but he is still in the 100 percentile of cuteness!!!! Our camera is still broken or I would post a recent picture of him to show of cute and "big" he is getting. He also has started to wave! It makes me so proud!

In Memory of my Grandpa

James H. Cagle 1921 ~ 2008 RIVERDALE- James H. Cagle, 87, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2008 at McKay Dee Hospital of a heart condition. He was born February 24, 1921 in Dennison, Texas, a son of James William and Bessie Alma Burke Cagle. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim served his country in World War II as a photographer, Navy 1st class. He photographed famous people including then Secretary of War, Harry Truman. While stationed at Clearfield Naval Supply Depot one of his assignments was the creation of a GI 'pinup' calendar. He fell in love with Helen Matilda Roper (Miss December 1945) and married her on June 28, 1946. She has been his 'pinup' ever since. They were later sealed in the Ogden temple. They spent several summers in southern Utah on the Indian reservation photographing the people and country that they loved. One of his proud accomplishments was a rare photograph of Chief Gray Mountain. He was a salesman for Sun Photo and operated his own professional photography business with his lovely wife. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. He didn't die wealthy but considered his family to be his great wealth. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Helen of Riverdale; four daughters, Audree Anderson (Don), Chino, CA; Jill Cagle Kelly, Las Vegas, NV; Julie Coleman (Dal), Layton; Jennifer Price (Keith), Kaysville; two sons, James Robert Cagle (Sherry), West Point; Jeffrey Brent Cagle (DeAnn), Plain City; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT. Family and friends may call Wed., August 27, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the mortuary.

I thought I would share my favorite memory of my grandpa, when I was little my grandpa would tell me to eat the crusts off my bread and I would grow long blond curly hair. Well that stuck with me and when I was in kindergarten I had to draw a self portrait, which I drew myself having long blond curly hair! I also remember Colby and I having a long conversation with him one evening about his life and his love of golf. I am so thankful that I had the talk with him because I learned so much about him and what an amazing life he had. Later on Colby told me, "your grandpa has played on all the courses that I want to play on. He had the life." I love you grandpa and will miss you lots!

Phone Talk

Okay this is silly I know, but Corbin is so smart. He loves to play with our cell phones and yesterday he was pretending to talk on them. I've tried to get him to talk before when I've been on the phone with Colby, but he usually just tries to eat it. So yesterday when he was playing with my phone and he held it too his ear and jabbered for a bit, Colby and I were shocked! We were so proud! It was so cute. Now we just have to get him to say mama or dada.

Nothing to Blog About

Sorry guys it's been forever since I've blogged, but I really don't have anything to blog about. We haven't even really been busy so I don't even have a good excuse, we have just been enjoying the summer. We went and saw Batman the other week and we really liked it, except for that it was kind of long, but anything with Christan Bale keeps my attention! :) I also read Breaking Dawn and for the most part I thought it was a good book. I'm just glad the series is over. Corbin is getting so big! He is all over the place and has the bumps to prove it. I can't believe how fast he has grown. Colby has been in this do it yourself mode, which is nice, but I do get a little hesitant. A while ago Colby's alternator went out in his car and he was set on fixing it himself. I wasn't so sure, but when I found out how much it would cost to fix I was like go for it! So an hour later he triumphantly fixed it! I was so impressed. Then the other day he fixed the drain in the bath tub. It is so nice to have a handy man in the house.
